Views & sharing reimagined: September 2022

This update is the last in a set of major changes to the flow & structure of the product. Check out our new Views tab, a reimagined sharing process, & some additions to our data connectors.

The “more to come” has come. We mentioned in our last update that we’re taking some important steps towards our grand vision of Polymer. This update is the last in a set of major changes to the flow & structure of the product. For some of our OG users, you know how far we’ve come in the recent months. For those of you that are new, we’re glad to be starting off on the right foot. 😉

Thanks to all for your support & feedback! Please, as always, share any thoughts with us through polymersearch.com/contact. Or just say hi, we’d love to hear from you!

Views makeover

We’ve upgraded Views from a drop-down menu to a full-blown tab. Quick reminder: a “view” is a snapshot of data or insights you want to revisit or share. While you’ll still be able to create, save, & share a view, the way you go through this process has changed a bit.

From either the Data or Insights tabs, you will visualize your data & create a view. When you’re ready, you’ll click the [+ Save View] button in the top right corner.

If you then navigate to the Views tab, you’ll find this view & any others you’ve saved. From here you can share, edit, or preview any of your views as well as delete, duplicate, etc.

Who, what, where of sharing

View tab changes inspired updates to the way we think about sharing across the product. We’ll take this as an opportunity to walk through each of the ways you can share in Polymer, starting with views.

Sharing a view

As discussed in the previous section, a view you create can be shared by visiting the Views tab. There are three share settings:

  • A public view can be shared via a web link or with an embed code. Guests will be able to see only that view (similar to what you see when you preview a view) and can visit regardless of whether they have a Polymer account.
  • A password-protected view can be accessed similarly to the public view, but a password of your choosing will be requested when guests try to open the link.
  • A restricted view can only be accessed by you, the App’s collaborators, or members of the workspace. We’ll get into the details of what that means in the following sections.

Sharing an App with collaborators

If you’d like to work on your Polymer App with a friend or colleague, you can add them as a collaborator. They’ll be able to see all of the data in that App, create saved views, & edit settings. In order to do this, the collaborator will need a Polymer account of their own.

General Polymer App access

To share a Polymer App more generally with guests without a Polymer account, you would adjust general access to one of three settings:

  • A public app can be accessed by anyone with the link. Guests won’t be able to create views or edit the app as a collaborator would, but they can explore the data & see any public views you’ve created.
  • A password-protected app can be accessed similarly to the public app, but a password of your choosing will be requested when guests try to open the link.
  • A restricted app, like a restricted view, can only be accessed by you, the App’s collaborators, or members of the workspace.

Adding a member to your workspace

This is the highest level of access someone can have to your data in Polymer. Similar to a collaborator, a workspace member will be able to freely edit, create, & explore. However, a workspace member has access to all of the data in the workspace they’re invited to, not just one Polymer App.

To review, a workspace is where you upload data in Polymer. You could have just one workspace or create multiple to work on different sets of data with different groups.

New data connectors & auto-syncing

You can now directly link your Polymer App to Facebook Ads & Linear data sources. Just select the source & enter your login credentials.

Once the connection is established, you can set up automatic syncing between the data source & Polymer so you’re always looking at the newest data. For a super powerful workflow, set up a saved view to automatically get the freshest insights every time you log in!

These data connectors have been a long time coming & don’t worry, we won’t stop here. We can share that Google Ads is next in line. Any other requests? 👀
